Getting Started: eBooks

An introduction to the library services of the Bishop Ransom Library.

Instant Access

Electronic Books (eBooks) are a great way to gain instant access to an item. Although the majority of books are still only accessible in print, in recent history millions of eBooks have been made accessible online. You can read eBooks on your laptop or desktop monitor, and often you have the option to download and read them on a smartphone or tablet.

Accessing and Reading eBooks

Our eBooks are made available via OhioLINK's Electronic Book Center (EBC). To access:

  1. From the EBC page select an eBook collection from the left side of the screen -- always select the (off campus access) link -- or use the search box to look for a specific title.
  2. Select Wilberforce University and Main Campus on the Institution Selection Form.
  3. Enter you Last Name followed by your First Name and your Library Barcode number on the Authentication Form.

                                      STEP 1                                                                                                             STEP 2                                                                                                                STEP 3

Once you have been authenticated and can access an eBook collection, you can conduct a basic or advanced search to discover materials. From the results page you can choose to read either a PDF full text, or Download (offline). Even though these two options are specific to the EBSCO eBook collection, other collections typically provide similar options.

Look for the Viewing Requirements when choosing to download offline to ensure your device is compatible. Most eBooks can be accessed with apps downloaded from the Apple or Android stores, or on a Kindle. Checked out eBoooks, like other library books, can only be borrowed for a limited amount of time.
